  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a powerful diagnostic tool used to evaluate you for erosive disease, inflammation, torn ligaments or tendons, and progression of disease.  It also helps us to determine which medications will work best for you.
  • Each MRI takes 16 – 45 minutes.  Please avoid wearing jewelry or a watch.              We also ask that you avoid using lotion or oils to the arm or leg that the MRI will be performed on, as it can interfere with the quality of the images. If you are having an MRI of the knee, you may wish to bring a pair of shorts (or skirt), as pants will need to be removed.  If you are having an MRI of the elbow, we ask that you wear a sleeveless shirt, avoid wearing an under-wire bra, and refrain from using underarm deodorant on the affected arm
  • Radiology (X-RAYS) is used to evaluate the bony anatomy of all of your major joints and spine from your neck down to your tailbone.  X-rays help us evaluate you for arthritis, fractures associated with bone loss, and countless other abnormalities.  It also serves as a valuable baseline evaluation for follow-up and comparison.  PRE-MENOPAUSAL WOMEN MUST SCHEDULE THEIR X-RAYS WHILE THEY ARE MENSTRUATING, TO RULE OUT ANY CHANCE OF PREGNANCY.  IF YOU ARE NOT MENSTRUATING AT THE TIME OF YOUR APPOINTMENT, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO RE-SCHEDULE.

A Standard Arthritis Series includes pictures of your feet, hands, wrists, hips, knees, and your entire spine from neck to tailbone.  This series takes approximately 15 minutes.

Please avoid wearing any jewelry, or you will be asked to remove it.   We also ask that you avoid wearing clothing with snaps, buttons, rivets, sequins, zippers, etc.  We prefer you wear either a sports bra or a bra without an under-wire, (or no bra).  Sweat pants and a t-shirt work great!
